- My opinion about DN
I am excited to announce that I am a member of the Decentralized Nodes Program on Kusama!
What is DN? And what is the difference with TVP?
Concretely, the TVP allowed validators to become active in set with very little means.
This system selected a list of validators that changed regularly. The goal was to highlight independent validators and prove themselves.
At the same time, validators were more regularly selected if they participated in governance, or if they had more and more nominators or even depending on the decentralization of their nodes.
This program worked very well. The proof is with the 1% validator - GTSTAKING which is now independent thanks to your nominations.
The TVP shut down in mid-November. And the new program, Decentralized Nodes was born.
The goal of the DN is the same: to highlight independent validators. But the selection criteria are stricter.
To be eligible for the program, and to be selected, you will be judged on 3 main criteria:
- Technical Knowledge
- Application & Interview
- Prior Experience
- Node Operations
- Hardware Specs
- Decentralization
- Monitoring
- Ecosystem Participation
- On-Chain Governance
- Validator Participation
- Other Ecosystem Contribution
The full list of rules is here: https://nodes.web3.foundation/rules
Another prerequisite is also the number of tokens in self stake:
- 7500 DOT for a Polkadot node (5000 prev)
- 150 KSM for a Kusama node (15 prev)
Once selected, you are nominated by the w3f wallets for a period of 4 months.
At the end of the 4 months, you must reapply. Each person can only participate in the program 3 times.
Member only on Kusama
In TVP I had two nodes on Kusama, and one on Polkadot. But that was already active without TVP. That was the maximum.
With the DN, I only had 150 KSM for a Kusama node. And not enough for a second validator on Polkdaot.
So for this first round, I chose to make a request for a single node on Kusama.
My goal with the DN
My goal in the DN is to be able to set up a second node on Polkadot. Today I do not have the necessary funds because I am at 1% commission.
However, by the next round, I will have the necessary funds. Here’s how:
- Validator Earnings 1% - GTSTAKING (Polkadot)
- Gain from staking: I recapitalize the gains of my validator in staking.
- Earnings of validator GTSTAKING (Kusama) on Polkadot staking.
My validator on Polkadot was not active for 1 month in August/September. Also the new inflation didn’t help.
But that’s the game, and I’m confident in my strategy, and the support of my nominators on Polkadot!
My opinion about DN
I am very happy with this initiative and to be a member of the first round of the DN on Kusama! And I am very curious to see how this program will evolve, and what it will bring to the ecosystem.
